Newcastle needed a last gasp penalty by Sam Hart to rescue a point against Romulus.
The visitors looked set for all three points after Theo Robinson gave them the lead midway through the second half.
It was Robinson who had the first chance of the game, as he dribbled beyond three challenges before seeing his shot cannon off Dave Whittaker.
Newcastle went close on 17 minutes, as Andy Nicholls’ back post header was nodded off the line by the alert Shaun Robinson.
Dave Parton prevented the home side going behind before the half hour mark, as his one handed save denied Robinson with a header from six yards.
Ryan Connor went close early in the second half, as his half volley from 20 yards was pushed away by Lee Evans in the Romulus goal.
Romulus took the lead on 67 minutes as Whittaker’s poor headed clearance fell to Robinson; who controlled before curling into the top right corner.
Newcastle rescued a point right on full time, as Shaun Robinson was adjudged to pushed Whittaker in the box, as the defender switched to centre forward for the closing stages.
Hart stepped up to send Evans the wrong way and secure Town’s second successive 1-1 draw.
