Do we need a Silent Night Deadly Night remake?

 

One of the most bizarre bits of news I have read recently, is the decision to green light a remake to 1980s slasher ‘Silent Night Deadly Night’.

The original was part of the slasher boom of the early 1980’s, and was entertaining enough without ever having the chance to win any awards for originality or performances.

Shortlisted for a short theatre release in the US before a DVD release early December, it is sure to split horror audiences.

Remakes seem to rarely find middle ground, with many adopting the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, My Bloody Valentine, Fright Night and Friday the 13th as their own, whereas Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Prom Night and too many more to mention thrown to the scrap heap.
