What’s the point of Texas Chainsaw 3D?

I must say as an advocate of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot and subsequent prequel, I very apathetic about the latest installment ‘Texas Chainsaw 3D’.

From the synopsis this is a direct sequel to Tobe Hooper’s 1974 original, but having seen a trailer and now two posters for the film I aren’t remotely impressed.

With the previous entries doing quite well at the box office, with the remake topping the box offices on both sides of the Atlantic ‘Chainsaw 3D’ will be getting a cinematic release when it seems a direct-to-video route would have been more safe.

The well known franchises of yesteryear are in dire straits after the Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th remakes (I liked the Friday reboot mind) all suffered critical disdain , and it looks like ‘Texas Chainsaw’ will be added to this list.

I would love to be proved wrong, but can’t say I harbour much hope even at this early stage. The less said about Leatherface’s new look the better too, I would have much preferred they go for a similiar look to ‘bloodyface’ from American Horror Story Asylum.

Here’s the latest poster for Texas Chainsaw 3D:

Texas Chainsaw 3D is released in Spring 2013.
