So here is your first and hopefully last generic blog for 2013, with some thoughts on what I am looking forward to hopefully seeing this year.
Star Trek Into Darkness
After seeing the epic trailer for the sequel to JJ Abrams reboot, Star Trek Into Darkness could be ‘the’ film of 2013. The plot much like the title of the film, is shrouded in, well darkness. What we do know is that Benedict Cumberbatch’s villain supposedly lies somewhere between The Dark Knight’s Joker and Hannibal Lecter, I’m guessing without literally chewing people’s faces off.
Star Trek Into Darkness is released in May.
Shortly before the festive season kicked in, Depeche Mode gave their fans an early present by announcing they would be releasing their 13th album in 2013.
It will hopefully signal a return to form after the disappointing ‘Sounds of the Universe’. They will also stop off in London for a single night at the 02 Arena later in the year.
We may be only just recovering from the excellent Unexpected Journey, but next December sees the release of the middle part of Peter Jackson’s adaptation of the Hobbit tale; The Desolation of Smaug.
As teased at the end of the first film, the fire breathing dragon is awoken from its slumber and could be set to cause a little bit of trouble for Bilbo, Gandalf and his merry batch of dwarves.
Voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch, this will hopefully keep the momentum going, right through until the final chapter ‘There and Back Again’ which is scheduled t debut in 2014.
The Final season of Community?
All signs point towards the fourth season of the excellent sitcom Community being its last, after the series was trimmed to 13 episodes and one of the leads Chevy Chase walked out on the show.
It is unfortunate, but few sitcoms over the last decade or so, have maintained the quality and innovation of Community in its run since 2009, and in some ways it could go out on top whereas many shows outstay their welcome and become stale and repetitive.
The 4th season of Community starts in February.
No bad for a hangover, blog right?
