Floyd Mayweather Jnr. teased big news a couple of days ago on his social media profiles, and low and behold he announced a new TV deal and his next fight at the same time today.
‘Money’ Mayweather will take on in-form Robert Guerrero on May 4th, in a double headliner with Canelo Alvarez facing Miguel Cotto conqueror Austin Trout.
The fight will be shown on Showtime, in what is part of a 3o month and possible 6 fight deal. The likelihood of Floyd fighting 6 times in a 2 and a half year period are admittedly slim given his recent fight history.
This of course means a parting of the ways of sorts with HBO, who have handled the majority of Mayweather’s fights for the past few years.
It will be interesting to see how Floyd’s prison stint has affected his skills inside the ring given the minor criticism levelled at him after his win over Cotto, when many feel his speed of hand and foot had diminished slightly.
Guerrero himself should not be underestimated, with just a single defeat in 32 fights, with notable victories over Michael Katsidis, Joel Casamayor and most recently Andre Berto in November last year.
Safe to say though, as with any Mayweather bout these days, it will be on every boxing fans lips for weeks leading up until May 4th.
