When the news first broke last year that Adam Driver has bagged a significant role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, I have to admit it didn’t exactly set my world alight.
Now though having seen him in nearly 3 seasons of HBO hit ‘Girls’, I am firmly behind the idea and think he could potentially steal the show from John Boyega and Daisy Ridley who seemed to be billed as new Han and Leia.
Rumour has it that Driver will portray a villain called Kylo Ren, who could lead the rebellion against the Jedi and the possibly reformed Republic in the wake of the deaths of Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine.
Whether it is him trawling through the snowy woodland in the first trailer for the film is still unconfirmed, as we know JJ Abrams likes to keep his set as close guarded as possible with little or no spoilers.
Driver seems to have the diversity to play a conflicted villain, who can be truly threatening (also given he is 6″3, physically imposing) as well as vulnerable.
Here’s the trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens which hits cinemas in December:
